WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Canadian firm Shermag Inc. is recalling about 3,100 drop-side cribs that pose a risk to children, a federal watchdog agency said.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Shermag, of Quebec, imported the cribs from China.

The hardware on the drop-side rail can break, allowing the drop-side to detach from the crib. This creates a dangerous space where an infant or toddler can become wedged, the commission said in a statement.

The recall involves wooden cribs sold in a variety of colors. They were sold separately or as part of the "City Lights," "Fairy Tales," or "Dormez Vous," furniture collections.

The cribs were sold at Land of Nod stores and other outlets from September 2004 through December 2008 for between $400 and $800.

Consumers were advised to stop using the cribs and contact the firm for a free repair kit.

Consumers can call 800-567-3419 for information.
