CUPERTINO, Calif., July 22 (UPI) -- Apple says more than more than 1 million people downloaded Mac OS X Lion, the latest version of its operating software, to their computers on the first day.
Users are buying Lion, initially available only as a download, faster than any other operating software release in the company's history, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
The debut of Lion comes on the heels of the announcement of jaw-dropping second-quarter results, as Apple more than doubled its profit from the same quarter a year earlier, to $7.31 billion from $3.25 billion, and saw an 82 percent increase in revenue to $28.57 billion from $15.70 billion a year earlier, the Times said.
Lion, priced at $30 in the Mac App Store, is the eighth major update of OS X for Mac computers.
For users who want a physical version of the software, Apple will offer it on a USB thumb drive in August for $69.
