Markets close with losses

NEW YORK, June 6 (UPI) -- U.S. markets closed lower Monday, with the Dow Jones industrial average adding a day to a five-week losing streak.

The DJIA lost 61.30 points or 0.5 percent to 12, 089.96. Twenty-three of 30 Dow components fell with bank stocks leading the way. Shares at Bank of American tumbled 3.99 percent, while JPMorgan Chase & Co. shares lost 2.5 percent.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 13.99 or 1.08 percent to 1,286.17. The Nasdaq composite index lost 30.22 or 1.11 percent to 2,702.56.

On the New York Stock Exchange, 617 stocks advanced and 2,395 declined on a volume of 3.5 billion shares traded.

The benchmark 10-year treasury note fell 2/32 to yield 2.997 percent.

The euro fell to $1.4576 from Friday's $1.4634. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 80.04 yen from Friday's 80.24 yen.

In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index lost 1.18 percent, 111.86, to 9,380.35.

In London, the FTSE 100 index rose 0.14 percent, 8.15, to 5,863.16.
