Gold at record $1,536

NEW YORK, April 28 (UPI) -- Gold prices jumped to a record $1,536 Thursday on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, adding $19.10 or 1.2 percent.

Gold climbed as the dollar index fell 0.66 percent. Traders may still be reacting to the U.S. Federal Reserve's decision Wednesday to leave the federal fund rate intact, which was seen as a hesitation to deal with rising prices.

The euro rose to $1.482 from Wednesday's $1.4794. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 81.52 yen from Wednesday's 82.04 yen.

The dollar was mostly lower in Asia and Europe with the dollar index off 0.54 percent to 73.11.

The British pound fell to $1.663 from Wednesday's $1.6636. The Australian dollar rose to $1.0929 from $1.0872.

In India, the dollar rose to 44.33 rupee from 44.326 rupee. In Singapore, the dollar fell to 1.2273 SGD from 1.2299 SGD.

The dollar dropped in South Korea to 1,072.40 won from 1,077.59 won.
