Oil tops $112 per barrel

NEW YORK, April 22 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices lifted above $112 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday while the dollar turned higher after three days of weakening.

The dollar index rose 0.14 percent to 74.10, making up some lost ground. In Los Angeles, President Barack Obama said his administration would launch an investigation of oil and gas pricing to "root out any cases of fraud or manipulation" in the market, The Washington Post reported. Oil prices have risen more than 30 percent in the past two months.

May delivery crude oil added 80 cents overnight in New York to $112.25 per barrel. Home heating oil lost 1.85 cents to $3.2174 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline gained 2.93 cents to $3.2777 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas prices gained 11.3 cents to $4.423 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline rose to $3.848 per gallon Friday from Thursday's $3.84, AAA said.
