GeoManGear recalls lithium-ion batteries

WASHINGTON, April 19 (UPI) -- A company in Denver, GeoManGear, is recalling 18,100 lithium-ion batteries that can overheat, posing a fire hazard, a federal watchdog agency said Tuesday.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said 16,600 batteries in the United States and 1,500 in Canada were involved in the recall initiated by Datseplots Inc., doing business as GeoManGear.

The batteries were used with Magicshine bicycle lights. The recall involves Magicshine Series I and Series II lithium-ion batteries sold with light sets on Magicshine 900 Lumen (MJ-808), 1400 Lumen (MJ-816), and Tail Light (MJ818) battery packs.

The battery packs were sold separately. Series I batteries were encased in a nylon sleeve, while Series II batteries were enclosed in an aluminum casing.

They were sold nationwide from the GeoManGear Web site from June 2009 through November 2010 for between $40 and $130.

Consumers were advised to stop using the batteries and register at www.MagicShineBatteryRecall.com to receive a free replacement.
