Aeroflot considers a fine for Sukhoi

MOSCOW, April 15 (UPI) -- Russia's largest airline Aeroflot said it would consider asking the government to fine manufacturer Sukhoi for late delivery of jets on order.

"We have to decide how Aeroflot would receive the planes, since the deadline in the contract has expired," said Aeroflot Chairman and Transport Minister Igor Levitin, referring to Sukhoi Superjet 100 planes that are now three and a half months overdue.

RIA Novosti quoted Levitin Friday as saying, "Management is now preparing proposals for the board of directors, and then for the government on the fines."

The carrier has 40 jets on order. Sukhoi has said delivery of the planes would begin in March.

Besides the missed deadline, "Aeroflot also has questions regarding technical parameters," the transportation minister said.
