Sunjoy outdoor fireplaces recalled

WASHINGTON, March 8 (UPI) -- A Steubenville, Ohio, firm is recalling about 20,000 freestanding steel outdoor fireplaces with chimneys that can catch fire, federal regulators said.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the Sunjoy Industries Group Limited was recalling the fireplaces, an additional 400 of which were sold in Canada, as they have received reports of decorative powder coat finishes in the chimneys catching fire.

The Garden Treasures Living steel fireplaces were sold nationwide at Lowes home improvement stores from March 2010 through November 2010 for about $300 each.

The fireplaces are approximately 24 inches deep, 35 inches wide and 57 inches tall. They have two glass doors and a tile back in the inside of the stovebox.

The recall involves fireplaces with item number 0027705 and model number L-OF082PST-3.

Consumers were advised to stop using fireplaces and contact Sunjoy for a free replacement chimney and a chimney cap.
