Gold up from Tuesday's record

NEW YORK, March 2 (UPI) -- Gold prices hit a record Wednesday in New York, pushed by wariness in equity markets that sent investors toward safe havens.

On the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold prices added $5 to reach $1,436.20 per troy ounce. Oil prices for April delivery also rose, adding $2.86 to $102.49 per barrel, topping $100 for the second consecutive trading session.

The euro rose to $1.3867 Wednesday from Tuesday's $1.377. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 81.85 yen from Tuesday's 81.92 yen.

The dollar was mostly lower elsewhere, the dollar index dropping 0.51 percent to 76.66.

In India, the dollar fell to 44.81 rupees from 44.863 rupees. The U.S. dollar rose to 7.791 Hong Kong dollars from 7.7904 HKD. The dollar fell to 1,120.95 South Korean won from 1,126.76 won.

The U.S. standard fell against the Canadian dollar to $0.9726 from $0.9748. The Australian dollar rose to 1.0167 USD from Tuesday's 1.0135 USD.
