Super Bowl subsitution: Groupon

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- The line-up for Sunday's Super Bowl in Arlington, Texas, has had some last-minute changes -- having to do with advertisers that is, business journals said.

Pizza Hut has backed out of a 30-second spot that was to air during the big game, The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday. That leaves the firm's strategy of advertising before kickoff and not during the game intact, as the firm believes pizza orders are made before the gladiators take to the field, the newspaper said.

It is not clear if online discount firm Groupon has taken Pizza Hut's slot, but it is likely, as Groupon has found a last-minute slot to make its Super Bowl debut and late changes are rare for the game where time slots are usually nailed down in October, Ad age reported.

Ad Age said, "one company that had purchased time during the game decided to pull out," without naming the company.

Groupon Chief Operating Officer Rob Solomon, meanwhile, said the company was ready for the big show.

"Groupon has served as a bridge between the online and offline worlds. After two years in business earning 50 million subscribers to date, we feel it's time to use TV to reach an even broader audience," he said.
