NEW YORK, D.C., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Telecommunications experts said 4G cellphone networks offered by U.S. firms are not living up to the hype.
"Clearly, nobody is 4G," said industry analyst Jeff Kagan from Atlanta. "In fact, everyone is miles away from 4G," he said, The Detroit News reported Saturday.
Hyperbole is not the true measurement of telecommunication speeds. The International Telecommunications Union in Geneva, Switzerland, has set the standard for fourth generation networks at 1,000 megabits per second when a user is at home or an office and 100 megabits per second when a user is riding a plane, train or automobile.
"If they're not meeting the standard, they wouldn't say they're running 4G networks. I think the experience speaks for itself," said Tammy Capone, a spokeswoman for MetroPCS, a service provider based in Richardson, Texas.
