Munchkin toy submarines recalled

WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Munchkin bath toys due to risk of injury.

About 34,000 Bathtub Subs were imported from China by Munchkin Inc., of North Hills, Calif., and sold nationwide from November 2009 through September 2010 for about $7.

The toys are battery-operated submarine toys. A valve on the bottom of the toy can pinch and cut children, the commission said in a statement.

The toy is yellow, has a smiling face, turquoise windows and an orange propeller. It also has an orange periscope that is used as an on and off switch.

Consumers were advised to take the toy submarines away from children and contact Munchkin for instructions on how to return the toy for a free replacement.

Consumers can call 877-242-3134 for information.
