Google signs deals for Google TV

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. Internet giant Google said Monday it has reached agreements with several media and Internet companies as a step toward initiating Google TV.

In an online posting, Google said it has formed partnerships with Amazon Inc. and NBC Universal Inc. -- each designed to facilitate Google TV -- that will allow television sets and Internet data to be displayed and manipulated on a television screen, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Google said "a new world of apps available for TV" would be accessible. For example, one program would allow viewers to track the stock market while watching CNBC's Real Time, Google said.

About 75,000 movies and television shows would be available through Amazon Video on Demand, the Journal said.

Logitech International SA is expected to provide details Wednesday about a control device, like a set-top box, that will merge television and Internet capabilities.
