Walmart to launch mobile phone service

BENTONVILLE, Ark., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. retail giant Walmart said it was ready to launch a post-paid cell phone plan with unlimited talk and text that comes without a contract.

The retailer said "Walmart Family MobileT" would be available on Sept. 20 at 2,500 outlets.

It will be sold exclusively at Walmart, the company said, introducing the service as one with "no surprise outages," given customers don't run out of minutes.

For one line, the service will cost $45 per month. Additional lines will cost $25, the company said in a release.

A service plan account will include "free preloaded 100MB WebPakTM -- which provides access to the Internet," Walmart said. In addition, the retailer touted international calls "as low as 5 cents per minute," to calls made to select countries through the Internet option.
