Microsoft, Yahoo! integrate searches

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. technology giants Microsoft and Yahoo! said the partnership step of launching Bing engine searches from Yahoo! Web sites was up and running.

The technical step is the cornerstone of a 10-year agreement in which Microsoft's search engine Bing will be launched from Yahoo! Web sites in return for Yahoo! managing advertisement sales and marketing, InformationWeek reported Wednesday.

Microsoft, reportedly, will keep 12 percent of the advertising revenue generated by the partnership.

"We're happy to report the transition has gone smoothly and we feel great about the progress our search alliance has been making over the summer," Satya Nadella, senior vice president for Microsoft's Online Services, wrote in an online posting.

The contract allows Yahoo! to back out if searches fall short of a target figure that is a percentage of searches in comparison to searches on Google, InformationWeek said.
