Marley baseboard heaters recalled

WASHINGTON, July 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Marley Engineered baseboard heaters due to a fire hazard.

About 30 Dayton Electric Baseboard Heaters were manufactured by Marley Engineered Products LLC of Bennettsville, S.C., and sold through Grainger stores nationwide from December 2009 through March 2010 for about $50.

The heaters are mislabeled. The labels say they are approved for 240 or 208 volt use, but some have heaters with a maximum capacity of 120 volts, the commission said in a statement.

Too much electric power could result in a fire.

The recall involves Dayton 240/208 volt model 3UG82D baseboard heaters. The nameplate on the bottom right corner of the heaters says "Dayton Electric Mfg. Co."

The date code on the recalled units is 1209.

Consumers were advised to stop using the heaters and disconnect power from the recalled heaters at the circuit breaker or fuse.

Consumers can return the recalled units for a free replacement. Marley will cover reasonable labor costs for inspection and exchanges of recalled heaters.

Consumers can call 800-642-4328 for information.
