NEW YORK, June 14 (UPI) -- U.S. media giant News Corp. said Monday it would purchase Skiff LLC and Journalism Online, strategically increasing its options for Internet publications.
Skiff, an independent firm owned by Hearst Corp., formats material for tablet computers and other mobile devices, The Wall Street Journal reported. Journalism Online gives publishers the option of charging readers for content posted on the Internet.
News Corp. owns Dow Jones & Co., which produces The Wall Street Journal.
The two purchases help News Corp. move forward with plans to increase reader subscriptions and Internet advertising revenue. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rupert Murdoch said he expected to make an "innovative subscription model" public within a few weeks, the Journal said.
