Step2 riding toys recalled

WASHINGTON, May 12 (UPI) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Step2 Push Around and Whisper Ride Buggies due to a risk of injury.

About 2.5 million riding toys were sold by Step2 Co. of Streetsboro, Ohio, and sold nationwide from August 1999 through March 2010 for $29-$59.

The pin attaching the yellow knob on the handle can come lose, allowing the handle to detach from the buggy, creating a risk of injury to young children, the commission said in a statement.

The Push Around Buggy and Whisper Ride Buggy are ride-around toys modeled after vehicles with a handle for pulling or pushing. They were sold in a variety of colors, such as red, orange, blue, pink and green.

Consumers were advised to contact Step2 for a free repair kit.

Consumers can call 866-860-1887 for information.
