Hu pledges more business for Taiwan

ZHANGZHOU CITY, China, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao vowed to aid Taiwanese businesses during a visit to an agricultural complex in Zhangzhou City on the mainland, officials said.

Hu Friday toured a business park containing the products of more than 70 Taiwanese agriculture firms, Xinhua, China's state-run news agency, reported Saturday.

The visit came in advance of Sunday's Spring Festival -- China's lunar New Year and its most important holiday.

Hu pledged to increase business through the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement being negotiated between Taiwan and mainland China, Xinhua reported.

Hu said the agreement would provide new opportunities for agriculture and other businesses on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

"We will try our best in everything that will benefit the Taiwan compatriots, and we will honor our words," Hu said.
