TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- An appeals court has lifted a state order barring insurance giant Allstate Corp. from writing new business in Florida.
The First District Court of Appeals Friday gave state Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty 10 days to make a case that Allstate has endangered public welfare, as McCarty charged in suspending Allstate's license Thursday, The Tampa (Fla.) Tribune said.
McCarty's office has been investigating insurance company rate hikes and rejection of home insurance customers following the 2004-2005 hurricane seasons, the Tampa Tribune reported Saturday.
Allstate, based in Northbrook, Ill., denies it has failed to comply with the investigation, Allstate spokeswoman Amy Moore told the Chicago Tribune.
Allstate's 1,100 Florida agents will continue to write new policies while cooperating fully with the state's request for company information, Moore told the Chicago newspaper.
