SACRAMENTO, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- A federal judge has ruled California's law barring sales and rentals of violent video games to minors is unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Ronald Whyte found the evidence does not show "playing violent video games immediately or necessarily results in real world violence."

The Monday ruling, similar to ones in other states, was expected by the industry, the San Jose Mercury News reported Tuesday.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger promised to appeal the ruling.
Among other things, the law required game manufacturers to label violent games with an “18.”
