BALTIMORE, July 24 (UPI) -- U.S. security researchers claimed they have discovered how to hack into Apple Inc.'s new iPhone and steal personal information.
Experts at Baltimore's Independent Security Evaluators, a computer protection consultancy, claim to have found a way to gain complete access to the phone through a flaw in the way iPhone connects to the Internet.
The flaw lets a hacker gain full control of the phone and access private information at will, ISE said.
"Within two weeks of part-time work we had successfully discovered a vulnerability," a notice on the company's Web site said.
"The compromised iPhone sent personal data including SMS text messages, contact information, call history and voicemail information over this connection," the notice said.
"We can get any file we want," it said.
The consulting firm also suggested the flaw could let hackers make expensive phone calls that would be charged to the iPhone's owner, or turn the iPhone into a remote surveillance device, Britain's Guardian reported.
Apple said it took security "very seriously" and would look into ISE's report.
ISE said there was no evidence that the flaw had been exploited or that users had been affected.
