WASHINGTON, June 29 (UPI) -- U.S. initial jobless claims last week rose by 4,000 to 313,000, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
Economists had expected the number of first time applications for state jobless benefits to rise in the week ending June 24 by 2,000.

The new data put the figure's 4-week moving average at 305,500, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week's revised average of 311,500.
