Stand by for sugar-free Tootsie Rolls

CHICAGO, May 3 (UPI) -- Tootsie Roll Industries Inc. is close to perfecting a sugar-free Tootsie Roll, a decades-old chocolate confection beloved across the United States.

TRI managers told shareholders that the company was "very close" to a sugar-free Tootsie Roll and a slew of other new products coming out this year, Crain's Chicago Business reported Wednesday.

Stifel Nicolaus & Co. Inc. analyst George Askew said in a report that management discussed plans for more than a dozen new products at its Monday meeting.
