Six Flags to fight takeover in Wilmington

OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Six Flags Inc. said Wednesday it would respond in court to a Delaware suit filed by an investor group claiming three seats on the theme park company's board.

Daniel Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins, Daniel M. Snyder, Mark Shapiro and Dwight Schar filed a lawsuit in Wilmington asking the court to validate shareholder voting results in their bid to become three of the seven Six Flags shareholders.

The theme park said the lawsuit was unnecessary and without basis, and it would respond appropriately.

On Tuesday Snyder said his group, known as Red Zone LLC, had won enough votes to get three board seats, bringing him closer to his goal of controlling Six Flags.

Shareholders have until Dec. 24 to change their minds, but Snyder said owners of 57 percent of Six Flags have given him firm commitments of their support.

If Snyder prevails, he will replace the current chairman, and Shapiro will replace the current chief executive, on the board.
