Six Flags puts itself up for sale

OKLAHOMA, Okla., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Six Flags Inc. of Oklahoma City responded to a hostile takeover bid by putting itself up for sale to the highest bidder.

The move comes after Daniel Snyder, owner of the Washington Redskins football team, began a move to take over the troubled amusement park operator -- without actually buying 100 percent of all the company's stock, MarketWatch reported Thursday.

Shares of Six Flags, which has posted losses for six years in a row, were up more than 10 percent Thursday in early afternoon trading.

Viacom Inc. and Cedar Fair LP were viewed by some analysts as potential bidders for Six Flags.

Six Flags owns or operates 28 parks in the United States, one in Mexico and one in Canada. Attendance at Six Flags parks totaled 33.5 million in 2004.
