Ford hints at big restructuring disclosure

DETROIT, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Ford Motor Co.'s second restructuring in four years, which could include plant closures and layoffs, will be disclosed by the end of fall.

Chief executive Bill Ford said the corporate overhaul could include facility closures and blue-collar job losses, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.

The No. 2 automaker lost $907 million in the April-June period this year in North America. Earlier this year, Ford said it would dismiss about 2,700 white-collar workers, but since has said it might cut more.

It also is scaling back healthcare benefits for white-collar workers and trying to trim back blue-collar healthcare benefits so they are more in line with what managers receive.
