AEP paying $100M for Reliant facility

HOUSTON, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A unit of American Electric Power Co. will pay $100 million to Reliant Energy Inc. for a West Virginia power plant.

Appalachian Power Co. is selling its 505-megawatt, natural gas-fired power plant located near Huntington, W.Va., American City Business Journals reported Thursday.

The facility, brought online in June 2001, is a simple-cycle peaking facility with six combustion turbines that Houston-based Reliant acquired in February 2002.

The sale will be completed in late 2005 or early 2006, subject to regulatory approvals.
