Nokia announced new leadership

ESPOO, Finland, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Finnish cell phone giant Nokia Corp. plans to make the current head of its key mobile handset unit the company's chief executive.

Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, a 20-year veteran of Nokkia, will be named president and chief operating officer Oct. 1 and then chief executive officer June 1, 2006, Mobile Europe reported Monday.

Current chief executive Jorma Ollila will resign June 1, 2006, and become a non-executive chairman.

Kallasvuo is known as a fluent communicator who has defended the company's market shares of cell phone business against new competitors.
