Intel building huge plant in Arizona

CHANDLER, Ariz., July 25 (UPI) -- Intel Corp. said Monday it would build a $3 billion facility in Chandler, Ariz., to create at least 1,000 high-tech manufacturing jobs.

The 300-millimeter wafer fabrication facility will begin production of microprocessors in the second half of 2007 on 45 nanometer process technology, American City Business Journals reported.

Intel selected Arizona for the site because state lawmakers changed the tax code. The chip-maker had been considering Oregon, Ireland and India for the facility.

"This investment positions our manufacturing network for future growth to support our platform initiatives and will give us additional supply flexibility across a range of products," said Paul Otellini, Intel chief executive.
