Ford, Mazda defer paying in hurricane area

DEARBORN, Mich., July 23 (UPI) -- Ford Credit and Mazda American Credit are offering customers affected by Hurricane Dennis in Alabama and Florida to defer two vehicle payments.

Under the Disaster Relief Program, Ford Credit and Mazda American Credit customers have the opportunity to defer the monthly payments without paying extension fees.

The program is open to nearly 20,000 customers living in 11 counties in Alabama and Florida that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has declared federal disaster areas.

"We understand that customers living in the affected areas may experience temporary financial problems due to Hurricane Dennis," A.J. Wagner, President of Ford Credit North America, said in a statement. "With our Disaster Relief Program, customers have one less thing to worry about while they rebuild."

Customers must register by Sept. 22 to qualify. Deferred payments are due at the end of the contract term.
