ST. LOUIS, June 11 (UPI) -- Chanel Inc. has sued a Missouri-based Web site that offers "novelty" replicas of items bearing famous and pricey brand names.
The lawsuit filed in federal court in St. Louis claims that Aperfectgift-4-U sells inferior "exact copies" of Chanel's own handbags and other items, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The suit names the site's operator, Joshua White of Baldwin, Mo., and a group of "John Does" as defendants.
On its Web site, the company admits in capital letters that its goods "ARE NOT AUTHENTIC PRODUCTS." It warns buyers that they are for "entertainment or novelty purposes only."
But it also promises affordable fashion, offering replicas of Vuitton, Dior, Coach and other high-fashion names.
