Intel to create 5 units from 2

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Chip maker Intel of Santa Clara said Tuesday it will reorganize to create five business units from the current two to boost production.

The world's biggest semiconductor manufacturer said that products that have previously been managed by two divisions will be increased into five, namely mobility, digital enterprise, digital home, digital health, and channel products.

Analysts said that the plan is the biggest reorganization plan since December 2003, when the company sharnk its business units to two from three.

Intel's new president, Paul Otellini, will take the helm in May.
