IBM adding 1,250 jobs in Virginia

ARMONK, N.Y., Sept. 27 (UPI) -- IBM Corp. in Armonk, N.Y., said Monday it is adding 1,250 jobs in Virginia to service its growing federal business.

Big Blue said the jobs are part of its previously announced plan to add 18,800 jobs around the world this year, bringing employment to more than 330,000.

Virginia Governor Mark R. Warner said IBM will invest $10 million to expand its operations in Fairfax County near Washington.

Warner said the new jobs have an average salary of more than $90,000.

The 1,250 new jobs are part of IBM's public-sector consulting, including work on homeland security.
