WASHINGTON, June 29 (UPI) -- A lawyer for the former chairman of bankrupt Enron was in Washington Tuesday hoping to talk with prosecutors, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Those prosecutors plan to ask a federal grand jury to indict former Enron chairman Ken Lay on charges relating to the last few months before the energy company collapsed in 2001.
"We're here to meet with prosecutors," Lay's lawyer, Mike Ramsey, said. Lay himself would not meet with prosecutors.
It was unclear, though, whether prosecutors, who have been investigating Lay for more than two years and have taken witnesses about Lay to the grand jury in recent weeks, have questions for Lay's lawyers.
Officials close to the grand jury told the Chronicle an indictment of Lay could be handed up as soon as this week.
