Disney dissidents seek unseat Eisner

NEW YORK, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Two former directors of U.S. entertainment giant Walt Disney Co. are hoping to convince the board to dump Chairman Michael Eisner.

Leading the revolt are Roy Disney and Stanley Gold, unhappy with the way the company is being run. They are trying to persuade at least 20 percent of shareholders to oppose re-election of Eisner, who is also the company's chief executive officer, at the company's annual meeting March 3.

That, they believe, would be enough to make the board drop its support of Eisner, the Financial Times reported Friday.

In recent letters to shareholders the company dismissed the pair's "distractive propaganda efforts" and pointed out that, while on the board, the two men voted in favor of many of the moves they are questioning.

The campaign by Disney and Gold gained new significance since Comcast last week unveiled its $61 billion hostile bid for the company.
