PHOENIX, May 22 (UPI) -- The San Francisco Giants saw a foul ball by Erubiel Durazo ruled a home run Tuesday night and were victimized by two other calls in a 9-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, who got another big game from Randy Johnson.
Johnson (8-1) closed in on Walter Johnson's strikeout total and joined teammate Curt Schilling as the only eight-game winners in the major leagues so far this season. He was the beneficiary of a series of calls, including Durazo's fifth-inning homer that clearly was foul.
Giants Manager Dusty Baker argued but remained in the game. However, he was ejected after a pair of tough calls went against his team in the seventh. The anger continued to boil and Giants catcher Benito Santiago was ejected by plate umpire Bill Hohn in the bottom of the frame.
Johnson struck out 10 over seven innings, including former teammate Reggie Sanders in the second. That was the 3,500th strikeout of Johnson's career and he finished one shy of Walter Johnson, the Hall of Famer who totaled 3,508 and stands in eighth place.
The four-time Cy Young Award winner gave up three runs, three walks and six hits.
Giants starter Livan Hernandez allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings. Aaron Fultz (2-2) took over in the sixth and allowed an RBI single to Luis Gonzalez that gave Arizona the lead for good.
Tony Womack tripled, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Diamondbacks, who have the best record in the National League at 29-16.
Durazo opened the fifth with a line drive down the right-field line that was just right of the pole. Hernandez immediately signaled foul, as did the Giants bullpen, located directly behind the right-field wall.
First base umpire Larry Young ruled the ball fair and Durazo had his fifth homer in five days.
