Actor Patrick Stewart has heart surgery

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- "X-Men" actor Patrick Stewart is recovering in Los Angeles after undergoing a heart procedure to widen an artery, it was reported Monday.

Preemptive angioplasty was performed last week after a blood flow problem was detected during Stewart's annual physical Aug. 23, World Entertainment News Network said.

The surgery, performed to head off future problems, was a success and Stewart is resting for a few days before returning to work, publicist Kelly Bush said.

The 64-year-old British actor currently is filming "The Game of their Lives" and will soon begin voiceover work on "American Dad," an animated series.

Stewart, known for his long-running TV role as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," missed a Toronto sci-fi convention because of the surgery.
