CAIRO, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- In a surprise development, Egyptian Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi announced the army-backed government's resignation on Monday.
According to Egyptian state-run Nile TV, the prime minister offered the resignation to President Adly Mansour and offered to continue to work until the resignation was accepted.

It is unclear when the president will accept the resignation.
