Syrian opposition presents post-war plan

GENEVA, Switzerland, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The Syrian opposition presented their plans for a political transition into a post-war Syria to mediator Lakhdar Brahimi and the Syrian government delegation.

The plan calls for a transitional governing body to be installed that would oversee a total ceasefire under U.N. monitoring and be empowered to expel foreign fighters from both sides. The set of documents, or the Geneva communique, was presented to the Joint Special Representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi, who said, "Both sides are committed to discussing the full implementation of the Geneva communique to achieve political solution for Syria."

The communique made no mention of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad by design, as the opposition said he is no way to be involved.
