LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Scott Bakula will star in an NCIS spinoff set in New Orleans, which will air as a two-episode "planted spinoff" this spring, with the potential to return as a full series on CBS in the fall.

Bakula, best known for his work on Quantum Leap, Men of a Certain Age and Behind the Candelabra, will play NCIS Special Agent Pride, a sort of counterpart to Mark Harmon's NCIS character, Special Agent Gibbs.

The network described Pride as someone who "embodies New Orleans. He's driven by the need to do what's right and does it all with warmth, passion, strength and humor."

He's also described as "charismatic and full of life, a man who savors every moment but can be rock-solid and strong when needed."

In the two-episode arc, Pride will get in touch with Gibbs following the death of a mutual friend.

Other characters include Special Agent Brody, described as a "a Mid-Western transplant (who) comes to New Orleans looking for a fresh start and a safe haven to heal old wounds," and a sheriff's deputy who has "been through some rough times."
