Yuengling ice cream is back!

Back in 1920, when Prohibition went into effect, the brewers in the Yuengling family turned to making ice cream when they weren't allowed to make beer.

But even once the ban on alcohol was repealed, Yuengling Dairy Products kept churning out delicious vanilla and chocolate frozen treats for the next 65 years.

The ice cream business melted when none of president Frederick "Fritz" Yuengling's children were able to take over the business. But now, 30 years later, Fritz's son David Yuengling is ready to restart the freezers.

“It brings back good memories and it’s good to see our family product, ice cream to come back in the market," Yuengling said.

The ice cream, made by Leiby's Dairy, will be available beginning mid-February in stores throughout the Mid-Atlantic, from New York down through Virginia.

Yuengling Ice Cream and the brewers are actually two separate companies -- the brewery is owned by David Yuengling's cousin -- and the closest the ice cream comes to the beer is a "Black and Tan" flavor: Belgian chocolate and salty caramel.
