Adam Lanza made chilling call to radio station year before Sandy Hook shooting

Jan. 16 (UPI) -- In bizarre audio published Wednesday by The New York Daily News, Adam Lanza can be heard comparing a violent chimpanzee attack to "a teenage mall shooter."

Lanza apparently called into an Oregon radio station in 2011, identified himself as Greg, and likened the actions of a teen mall shooter with those of Travis the chimpanzee, who ripped a woman's face off in 2009.

"His attack can be seen entirely parallel to the attacks and random acts of violence that you bring up on your show every week, committed by humans, which the mainstream also has no explanation," Lanza said of the chimp.

The Daily News said Lanza's voice was confirmed by two people who knew him.

"It's him," said a former high school classmate. "I talked to him every day for about an hour each day from freshman to junior year, so I know his voice. He's a very soft-spoken kid, but very articulate."

University of Oregon radio host John Zerzan said he remembered Lanza's call and noted that Lanza "seemed kind of robotic ... but what he was saying made sense."

Lanza then discussed the call on a blog under the user name Smiggles, which the Connecticut State Police identified as his online alias.

"I wish that I hadn't spoken nonstop about Travis for so long, but I didn't want to seem crazy by randomly bringing up a chimpanzee for unknown reasons," Smiggles wrote.
