Conjoined whale calves found in Mexico

Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Scientists found two baby gray whales floating dead in the waters of Mexico's Laguna Ojo de Liebre, also known as Scammon's Lagoon. Most unusually, they were conjoined at the midsection.

Witness Jesus Gomez uploaded 30 photos of the twins to his Facebook page on Sunday.

Though scientists have recorded cases of conjoined whales of other species, Sunday's find might mark the first-ever case of conjoined gray whales. They also believe that the twins, who half the size of a normal newborn whale calf, were likely to have been miscarried.
