Building collapse in India kills 17

A building under construction in the Indian tourist state of Goa collapsed Saturday, leaving 17 dead and both the builder and contractor missing.

A building collapse in the Indian tourist state of Goa killed at least 17 on Saturday, according to authorities.

The building was under construction in the town of Cancona at the time of its collapse. Goa's police control-room officer Sainath Kmorpant said that most of the victims were construction workers.

Search and rescue efforts continued on Sunday. A fire department official at the site of the cave-in said the chance of finding more survivors is remote and that "The death toll is going to rise further as rescue operation proceeds." Three additional bodies were recovered Sunday night, bringing the death toll to 17.

An investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway. Goa police are also searching for the builder and contractor, both of whom are missing.
