Dwyane Wade confirms he fathered son while on break from Gabrielle Union

Dwyane Wade has stepped forward to confirm reports that he fathered a son while on break from Gabrielle Union.

Speaking at a press conference Monday evening, the 31-year-old NBA player opened up about the "blessing" that came along as he was hurting from his breakup from Union.

"I had a time, a part in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son that was born healthy," Wade said. "So I'm moving on."

The new baby -- born about a month ago to a longtime friend of Wade's -- is the third for the Miami Heat star who is already father to Zaire and Zion from his marriage to Siohvaughn Funches. Wade, who penned the bestselling book, A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger than Basketball, is also raising his nephew.

"[What matters most] is always focus on what's most important to me and my family, and that's being a great father," Wade said at the press conference. "I've always tried to show my importance in my kids' lives and it doesn't change now. So, I, my lady and my family have continued to move forward, and I think that's evident with the ring and the proposal that I gave her, with our lives."

Last week it was reported that the basketball star proposed to Gabrielle Union with an 8.5 carat cushion cut diamond designed by Jason of Beverly Hills.
