Jim Schwartz and Matthew Stafford's girlfriend are biggest losers after Lions loss to Giants

Schwartz still has support of the locker room but that might not be enough.

After a 23-20 home loss in overtime to the putrid New York Giants, Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz is certainly in danger of getting de-clawed. Although it would reportedly cost the organization $12 million to fire him with two years left on his contract, that might be worth it considering how poorly the team has played in big games this season.

Even though the Lions are now eliminated from playoff contention, Schwartz still has the support of his players, at least publicly.

“It sucks because the man puts us in a good situation, he prepares us well, guys believe in him,” said middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch. “He’s a players’ coach. We all believe in him, we all respect him as a man. Unfortunately, the ball bounces that way or this happens and we’re behind the eight-ball. He’s done a good job. He’s prepared us week in and week out, put us in good situations as far as what to expect. Unfortunately, we can’t get over the hump.”

“The scrutiny is on everybody, not just Jim,” said wide receiver Nate Burleson. “Mostly it’s on the guys who wear the jerseys. It’s just the nature of the business. When it’s good it’s great and the praise is everything you would want. When it’s bad, the criticism comes like an avalanche. We understand that it’s coming. All we can do is let it happen and see what choices are made from here.”

Schwartz wasn’t the only one to face criticism after the loss.

Although things before the game seemed like they were going fine for Kelly Hall, the girlfriend of Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, things didn’t turn out so well after she went on Twitter following the loss.

The Lions are reportedly already “mulling candidates” to possibly replace Schwartz.
