'X-Men: Apocalypse' due in 2016

Director Bryan Singer announced plans for another "X-Men" film on Thursday.

Dec. 6 (UPI) -- There's no stopping the X-Men franchise.

X-Men: Days of Future Past won't hit theaters till May of next year, but director Bryan Singer is already plotting the next installment.

He issued this not-so-cryptic tweet on Thursday afternoon:

"Apocalypse" likely refers to the world's oldest mutant, En Sabah Nur, who first appeared in the X-Men spinoff, X-Factor, back in 1986. He's considered one of the most formidable X-Men opponents.

EW confirmed Thursday that 20th Century Fox titled the film X-Men: Apocalypse and had it slated for a May 27, 2016 release date.
