Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Former Italian motorcycle racer Doriano Romboni died Saturday in an accident during a training session for a memorial racing event for MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli.
The 45-year-old old was taking part in training for the second annual Sic Supermoto Day when he was struck by another rider.

He succumbed to his injuries later in the afternoon after being airlifted to the hospital.
Romboni was a six-time Grand Prix winner in the 125 and 250 classes.
