Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Yale University was on lockdown after a report of a gunman lead to an urgent police search and orders for students to shelter in place, beginning at 10 a.m. Monday and was loosened shortly after 3 p.m.

New Haven police said they received an anonymous call at 9:30 a.m. from someone saying his roommate was headed for the school with a gun and the intention to shoot people. At 11 a.m., the school confirmed the report of a gunman, and issued the shelter in place order.

At 3:10, the school lifted the lockdown on all but Old Campus and Calhoun college.

No shots have been reported.

The caller did not identify himself or give police any more information, said New Haven Police Department spokesman David Hartman. Two witnesses said they saw a man with a long gun, police said.

Authorities shut down the entire campus, and considers the central Old Campus the "hot zone." Streets and businesses nearby have closed while police conduct their search.

Yale is on break and classes do not resume until Monday.
